This is one of Hario's original basic brew guides for the V60 dripper. It's a simple method that's perfect for beginners.
Although this method doesn't require scales, if you have one we recommend you use them. It will help to be more precise with pouring and dosing the coffee, and will make good brews repeatable later on.
Adjust the amount of coffee for a stronger or weaker brew. If you are brewing for two people, double the coffee and water.

Recipe Preparation
- Coffee
- 15g
- Medium Fine grind
- Water
- 250g
- 95°C / 203°F

- Hario Scoop
- Mug
- Place a paper filter into the V60 and place the brewer on a mug.
- Soak the paper filter with hot water and empty your mug. This will remove any unwanted flavours from the filter paper and to preheat your brewer.
- Place the brewer on scales if you are using them.
- Fill the scoop level with coffee and place in the brewer (15g). Tare the scales if you are using them.
- Boil the kettle and wait a couple minutes for the water to cool down, or around
95°C/203°F. - Once you have kettle in hand, start the timer.
Steps
1. Bloom
In a quick motion, pour enough hot water (
60g) to soak all the coffee grounds.2. Wait
Let the coffee bloom for
30s.3. Pour
Slowly pour the rest of the water over the coffee in small circles. Slow down your pour or stop pouring if you get 3/4 of the way up the V60 or 2cm from the top.
4. Wait
Wait for all the water to drain.
